Wash your bicycle very carefully and do not spray it with a high-pressure water jet. Otherwise you will ruin your bike before it is ready.
The bike itself, as well as any other technical device, while in good condition, lubricated and clean in places where it is necessary. Dirt not only spoils the appearance of the bike, but it can also cause serious damage. As we’ve written in previous articles, dirt and sand on the chain accelerates the wear of the cassette and front stars. But let’s be clear – you should wash your bike, but it’s important to do it right!
There are many detergents for washing your bike, but you can use car shampoos and even Fairy if you don’t have anything better on hand. Oddly enough, you should wash your bike not with a sponge, but with a soft brush, as the former gets stuck in the dirt particles, which then scratch your precious bike like a fine abrasive.
Most importantly, protect the electrical devices that are so often used these days: bike computer and lights, if they are removable. Also don’t forget the bags and other bike attachments. As in car washing, you should first soak the bike in water and give time for the dirt to soak a little. Then, with a prepared mixture of water and car shampoo, use a soft brush to wash off all the dirt. And for hard-to-reach places, between the stars, use a special brush for the cassette and stars.
And don’t forget to lubricate all the moving components of the bike.
